Developing a Green Factor Tool for City of Helsinki

The development of the Helsinki Green Factor, carried out in 2013, is part of the ILKKA-project.The goal of the green factor approach is to mitigate the effects of construction by maintaining a sufficient level of green infrastructure while enhancing the quality of the remaining vegetation. The feedback received during the develompent work made it clear that the Green Factor Tool could benefit several groups of specialists at different stages of the planning process. Read more.

The City of Helsinki Flood Guide advises estates to be prepared for floods

The Flood Guide by the City of Helsinki, published in 2013, explains how the residents in Helsinki’s flood risk areas may protect their property from the flooding sea or inland waters. In a case of a flood, the self-imposed preparations by residents are hoped to benefit the whole city in addition to the residents. Read more.

Kuninkaantammi residential area is the Pilot of the Helsinki Storm Water Strategy

Kuninkaantammi, located in the Kaarela district in northwestern Helsinki, is the pilot target of the Helsinki Storm Water Strategy introduced in 2008. The ecologically sustainable urban residential area will be built on an old industrial zone, and the management of storm waters in the area will be carried out through natural methods. Read more.

Peer Review as a Development Tool for the Climate Change Work in Helsinki

In spring 2013, a peer review was carried out between three cities of Southern Finland. The cities – Helsinki, Turku and Lahti – reviewed their climate policies and the management of storm waters as part of adapting to climate change. The review has several suggestions on how to develop the climate change work in Helsinki, and many of those have now been launched into practice in the city. Read more.
